News: Updated
June 2, 2010
L.I.S.A.,
Inc. is proud to announce that seven of our youth will
be graduating from high school in June! They
are all heading in different directions to further pursue
their academic and vocational goals. Schools which our
program participants have to chosen to attend in the
fall include: the Fashion Merchandising and Retail Marketing
Department of Johnson & Wales University, Western
CT State University’s Department of Music, Spanish
Language Department of Lynchburg College, Electrical
Trade Department of Lincoln Technical Institute, Belle
Academy of Cosmetology and Naugatuck Valley & Tunxis
Community Colleges. All these youths worked
extremely hard to succeed and we wish them all the best
in their future endeavors.
Summer
is quickly approaching and our youth are looking forward
to having quite a bit of fun. Some of their
plans include going to amusement and state parks, the
beach, cultural events, outdoor concerts and the annual
agency vacation. In August, L.I.S.A., Inc. participants
will be staying at a beach house on the Rhode Island
coast for a week. The vacation is a time for all the
programs to come together to rest, relax and indulge
in a lot of recreational activities. This
trip would not have been possible without the help from
our Board of Directors and community supporters.
We thank you for granting this opportunity to our youth.
This vacation will provide them with memories that will
last a life time.
L.I.S.A.,
Inc. is in the process of developing an educational
scholarship fund for current and previous program
participants. We are very excited to be able to offer
financial assistance to those furthering their education
beyond high school. Because we strongly believe that
education is vital to achieving self-sufficiency, we
plan on using this scholarship fund to assist young
adults who have depleted other educational resources.
We are hopeful that this scholarship program will enable
our young people to pursue goals they may not have otherwise
been able to accomplish.

L.I.S.A.
Inc’s Connections Mentor Program is still in need
of career placement sites for our youth this summer.
The agency is searching for companies or small
businesses who would be interested in providing this
experience. There is no cost to those who volunteer
and support will be provided by L.I.S.A., Inc. A typical
career mentorship would involve one of our youths spending
a few hours a week at a workplace and shadowing an employee.
In order for our youth to qualify for the program they
must be either a junior or senior in high school, or
have already graduated. If you would like to know more
about this new program please contact Rose Egan at 203-879-9233
or
The
6th annual Robert J. Butler Memorial Golf Tournament
will be held on Tuesday, September 14th 2010 at Chippanee
Golf Club in Bristol, CT. This is a great opportunity
to support our agency and have fun playing eighteen
holes of golf on a lovely course. All proceeds go directly
to enhancing the programs provided to our youth. Individuals
interested in participating or sponsoring the event
can visit our website at: www.lisainc.org and click
on golf tournament to learn more and register on line.

2010 marks our 40th year of service to young
people. Founded in 1970, the agency began as
a single group home for teenage girls recovering from
abuse and neglect. Ideally, no young person should have
to face such tragedies but we are grateful to be able
to offer a safe haven for their recovery and growth.
Since 1970 we have added programs to further serve the
needs of young people and provide a more balanced approach
to their care.
