Plainville Group Home Residents Attend Independent Living Conference in Denver

In August, two of PGH’s promising young ladies attended at 28th Annual National Independent Living Conference, “Growing Pains 2014”, held by the Daniel Foundation in Denver, Colorado.

“Growing Pain’s 2014”’s presenters included experts in the field of independent living who lead training sessions, workshops, panel discussions and leadership and team building activities dedicated to the youth currently in the care of LISA, Inc. and other organizations who deliver similar services. Each session and workshop offered innovative ideas on how youth can adapt to life’s ever-changing situations and be properly guided to become competent, responsible and independent adults.

“In comparison to the services provided by other agencies, I believe that LISA, Inc’s is doing a great job to prepare our resident for their departure from our care”, says PGH House Supervisor Chavon Cruz, who also attended the Conference.  “I also learned how we can improve the post-program relationships with our youth as a measure of the agency’s and individual’s success.”

We would like to thank the Plainville Community Fund at the Main Street Community Foundation for awarding LISA, Inc a $1,000 grant to make this trip possible.

It is our goal to be able to send all interested LISA, Inc. residents to this conference every year. Next year’s event will be held September 1-4, 2015 in Orlando, Florida.
